FINAL Reader's Response

In the web article “IoT based Smart Parking Systems for Smart Cities”, hIOTron(n.d.) claims that effective management of parking space will prevent traffic congestion. Smart parking utilizes sensors installed on lots to detect lot availability. Occupants can book the lot in advance while receiving real time accessibility and when the sensors confirm a vacant lot, the car will be parked automatically. For an IoT solution, it should be  easy to transfer field data to the cloud at low cost and increased ROI, which is a challenge because there might be real upfront costs as in-ground sensors can incur additional costs for two parking systems. Smart parking authentication is done using an RFID tag, and data collected is reserved in the cloud. The app would find a vacant lot and send the location to the user after registration is completed. Optimal parking is achieved with minimal time and effort while enhancing the user’s experience.  A smart parking system helps to reduce carbon e...

Hashimoto, K., Kawaguchi, C., Matsueda, S., Morinaka, K., & Yoshiike, N. (1998, April 1). People-counting system using multisensing application. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0924424797017159 In this article, Hashimoto, Kawaguchi, Matsueda, Morinaka and Yoshiike (1998) focus on the applications of the people counting sensor by explaining the components and how it processes. The people-counting system is equipped with a multi-element infrared sensor which is made of PbTiO3 ceramics to achieve non-contact and non-blocking real-time counters with high accuracy. The sensor digital output and human information sensor uses a pyroelectric array detector to detect the direction of the movement and number of people. The counting sensor with eight-element array detectors is set up on the ceiling in the centre of the door and the sensor arrays are parallel to the movement directions of the occupants. The sensor on the ceiling detects the heat from the floor, and t...
